The World Bank Family Network has many reasons to be proud of its various projects that have produced measurable results. The Book Project that supports education through books to developing countries is one such project that was started in 1982.

A member of the External Communications at the Bank visited the Book Project in the month of January and was given an extended tour of the operation by its President, Josephine Barry. The visit was followed by an article that was posted on the Bank’s Internet on 1-27-07. It spoke of the magnitude of the project’s achievements and its exclusive length of existence.

The president and her team welcomed the response that the article received. Most importantly, it created an awareness of the work being done by an entire team of volunteers. It brought in help from bank staff to find reliable distributors to get the books to reach recipients in places like Kenya, Pakistan and Sierra Leone, and some of the Staff who were on mission offered to take books to institutions, especially those situated in landlocked places in Africa.

New members of WBFN are always welcome to visit the Book Project anytime between 10am and 3pm on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. A commitment to spare a few hours to volunteer will be a true reward to the the Book Project and its dedicated team.

The Book Project is open on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday, 10am to 3pm. Telephone: +1 202 473 8960 or visit our Contact us page for more info.
