Recipients

The primary recipients of the books are elementary, intermediate and high schools, colleges and universities, community libraries, and other organizations offering educational support in developing countries. A recipient must be part of a group of the above-named institutions under the responsibility of a sponsor. Our recipients are students:

  • Living in developing countries that use English as an official or administrative language;
  • In rural regions and poor urban areas in countries where public funding for education is inadequate;
  • In schools that lack basic equipment and adequate learning materials: where the few books that do exist are old and/or have to be shared by many children;
  • Who, because families can’t afford to buy books, might never have owned or even held a book;
  • Who may have to walk unacceptably long distances to schools without decent utilities such as water, sewage, electricity, and where the classrooms are overcrowded;
  • Who do not find adequate books and information in college libraries to help complete their basic studies;
  • Who learn from teachers who do not have the basic resources to teach – materials are nonexistent or when available are often outdated;
  • Whose futures are compromised because they lack the basic education necessary to compete in a world that values knowledge.
